American social worker and psychotherapist who taught at the Pennsylvania School of Social Work and led its 'functional' approach to casework. She was analysed by Otto Rank in 1926–27, translated his Will Therapy and Truth and Reality into English (1936), and wrote the first biography of him (1958).
