Concept
Will therapy
Otto Rank's form of psychotherapy, set out in his Technik der Psychoanalyse (1929–1931), which treats the patient's will — including the counter-will that shows itself as resistance — as a creative force to be affirmed rather than analysed away. It works through the present relationship between patient and therapist rather than through reconstruction of the past, and makes the ending of treatment, often fixed in advance, the occasion for the patient to separate and assert a will of their own.
