Concept
Internal saboteur
In Fairbairn's model, the split-off part of the ego that stays bound to the rejecting internal object and turns the child's frustrated aggression against the libidinal ego, attacking its longings for the exciting object. Fairbairn later renamed it the antilibidinal ego. It does some of the work Freud gave the superego, but it is a part of the ego with its own aims, not a moral agency.
